Recently purchased an MZT-61 zero turn. After having a Husqvarna Z254 for the past three years and quite a bit of trouble with it and poor service (Lowes) I brought it in for repair to a local shop in New Windsor, MD to find it would likely cost more to repair than to get in trade, which is where I bought the unit. Being skittish about Husqvarna from the Z254, I was pretty much set on a Dixie Chopper but did have a concern that the company was looking to sell off the Dixie Chopper division. The unit took about 1/2 the amount of time to cut my 3 acres as the Z254.
The best part of having the MZT-61 so far is the fact that my 12-year-old son isn't complaining to do the lawn anymore because it goes by so quickly. Don't waste your time and money on a smaller, more inferior unit. Spend the extra money and enjoy being done in 1/2 the time because time is money.
Great for the price and the handling of tall grass and a comfortable seat on the mower for mowing 3 acres and easy to get to the upper deck to blow off debris after mowing the 3 acres. Great well-built product is 2 mower the last one lasted 19 yrs.
Great mower for the money. I use it 2 times a week during the summer and also installed a small plow for the winter. Works great!
After spending a whole lot of time looking over reviews and trying to find a zero turn available to purchase and take delivery today, the Husqvarna MZT61 was the winner. Having only had garden tractors for the last 35 years, this was quite a change up. I had concerns and reviews only made the decision worse. Eventually it came down to availability, and I can say this was definitely a choice that made it self easy. Yes it is pricey, but it is built like a tank and man is it fast. I used to take an hour or more to do an acre and a half on a 20HP garden tractor with a 55" cut and tall grass really slowed me down. This 23HP Kawasaki blew through that job in 34 minutes with only 3/4 power. I completed 9 jobs in 6.5 hours that normally took me 18-19 hours. I really do not know why I waited so long. It is so easy to get on and start up.
Don't get me wrong, this is a serious transition from a garden tractor. I took it easy the first week getting used to inclines and turning without doing burn out patches on the lawn. I would probably add the mulching kit and a different set of tires. On wet grass on an incline this thing loses traction. Also be careful, do not try to do quick turns or throttle ups as this thing will do wheelies and tilt. Thank god for the SROP. If you have a SROP remember you got it when mowing around trees, otherwise you will be doing a lot of ugly pruning or flip this back.
All things equal, 2 weeks in and this thing is everything I ever asked for from Santa to give me more time for myself.
Like this lawnmower a lot for the money. Used it one summer and did not have any problems. Has features of other commerical mowers at a good price.
