Pretty easy to put together - took a little over an hour including un-crating, and adding oil and gas. Getting the nut positioned on the wheels can be finicky - make sure to press the bearing on the back in with a wood dowel and gentle hit with a hammer. Didn’t have any issues with loose bolts, or having to file welds and my drum was painted so no rust. Blades were lined up correctly and everything was coated in oil. Took it out for two hours and it worked great - I only stalled it once and it was easy to clear. I am clearing mostly scrub oak which is very hard and I was able to chip trunks up to 4”. As others have said stand to the side because it does spit back at you and wear gloves because the branches/limbs jerk pretty hard as they are drawn into the blades. I have 177 acres with lots of clearing to do on a 1/2 mile driveway. Oh, I am at 8000 feet.
I received my DK2 6 inch chipper in June 2019. The unit worked great. After two weeks the base of the feeder buckled slightly. It affected the operation slightly. When I contacted DK2 Power manufacturer and sent pictures of damaged area, they sent me a replacement unit. This company is great to deal with and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
The DK2 came well packaged. Mark was very helpful and very quick on the shipping! Less than one week it arrived after I told Mark I was gonna pull the trigger on this model. I had researched and researched over and over on what model would suit my needs, I had it narrowed down to two, after talking to both Company’s I went with SLE Equipment. I have 12 acres of ground I am turning in to a food plot at camp, I spent the last 4 days clearing brush and trimming trees. I have run beech, Cherry, Oak, Maple limbs, and small thorn apple trees through this machine and it worked flawlessly. The biggest I run through was 3 1/2 “ anything bigger than that I cut for firewood. I found out with the bigger ones you must hold the limb back or it may suck it in too quick and stall. The best thing I like, no need to trim the limbs down because the hopper is plenty big enough to handle it. All and all I have run my machine for about 12 - 14 hours total with no issues. I will give an updated review after I have run it more. Another nice feature I like about the DK2 is the tow hitch is removable for storage. Thanks, Mark!
On my property I have a lot of dead branches and need some heavy clean up. The issue was I required a larger hopper to place branches in since I have a lot of juniper, pinion branches with a lot of twists, turns and stems. Not all straight like you see in videos. It would take way too long to clip branches. So the larger feeder hopper worked great. With the single large hopper, the smaller branches I was able to grab and drop in hand fulls at a time. I really pushed this chipper hard. most of the time it self feed, but several times I needed to help it along. No big issue. My property sits in New Mexico at 7,400'. I was concerned about high elevation engine issues. I couldn't believe it started on second pull and ramped up to full RPM quick. I drove the chipper up there in a small cargo truck. With both hoppers held on with the quick clips, it was a breeze to take off front and back hoppers. With both off, it drops a lot of weight and I just hand rolled up the ramp into the trailer. Then put hoppers back on in the trailer. I didn't have a UTV to move it around, so I moved it by hand pulling it around by the hitch. Balances fairly well, but a bit heavy. It did clog once and just opened the feeder hopper and easily just pulled some branches out. It also got clogged below the blade drum at the bottom of chipper. I feed way too much in at once . All I did was remove both hoppers in two minutes or less and took my 18v leaf blower and blew back and forth from both ends. I turned the drum a few time, blew a little more and back on my way. Fairly easy. I think in other regions with hard wood it might be hard to feed maple, oak, hickory, or other very hard wood at 5"-6". Once I get a UTV up there it will be easier to maneuver round up and down hills.
The item was easy to finish assembly. Started right up, and chipped fairly well. I’m chipping dry wood, and I think freshly cut branches in larger diameter would chip better. I’m still getting to know the machine so I’m not pushing my luck and sticking large branches in. About 3-4” is where I’m stopping for now. It does a great job though and has tuned my fire cuts I had to make into nice shredded material and I can chip it right into my green bins for recycling.
