Rugged, Commercial Grade Machine - Easy to Use

I bought this because I was sick of the flimsy, plastic Home Depot specials I kept buying that kept breaking after a couple of years.
This machine is sturdy, has a simple, all metal mechanism that is guaranteed not to break, and because it is 3 feet wide and holds 50 pounds at a time I can cover my 1/2 acre yard FAST.
Worth the extra money because it is reliable, won’t break, speeds up the job, and delivers the product exactly where I want it.
Only took about ten minutes of use the first time to calibrate it to spread the type fertlizer I use. The control to adjust the variable rate is easy to access on the fly and easy to adjust with a wingnut. Start at the halfway setting - which is 40 - and go from there.
If you stop to take a break, make sure you pull the operating lever handle up (counterclockwise) or your product will keep spilling out on the ground and pile up.
My only criticism was the assembly instructions were a bit confusing (the machine does not come pre-assembled). However, there is a youtube video that was very helpful in resolving questions I had about orienting pieces during assembly, so make sure you find that and use it when you put it together.
The machine is designed so you can pull the wheels as part of machine maintenance/ cleaning/ lubrication and so it involves cotter pins - to me, these are a ruddy pain to work with - but probably a necessary evil to endure once a year as with a little TLC I think this beast of a machine will last a lifetime

    Quite impressive

So far I have used the spreader for only one thing and I was very impressed with it. I spread wood shavings (a type of sawdust) on my yard to rototill in to the clay soil. It did a very nice, uniform job of spreading. I was pleased that it could successfully spread that type of material, and I am confident that it will do a good job of spreading seed and fertilizer when it comes time to do so.

    Serious Drop Spreader!

Pretty happy with this spreader. Heavy duty and accurate at spreading if you, like me, think that drop spreading is the way to go. Assembles well. Because it is heavy, you have to be pretty tough to use it on a large yard with hills. If you were using it on a large flat yard it would be a dream! Weight disadvantage far outweighs cheesy plastic drop spreaders you get at box stores. Much wider width means you get the job done much more efficiently. Hope somebody appreciates it long after I'm too old to fertilize my own yard.
