Husqvarna GT54LS Lawn Tractor Mower 54" Deck 24hp Briggs

This is a great tractor for our small hobby farm and helps get the chores done faster than our old rider. We have many attachments that are used routinely with it and it doesn’t break a sweat while using them. Snowblower, plow disc harrow, mulboard plow, and a power broom for the driveway and parking areas. We had to modify the mower deck blades/spindles and install regular blades on it because the rapid change blades that come with this machine are too flimsy. The originals were worn out and bent up from regular mowing. Otherwise, the only other complaint is that the seat covering vinyl material is cracking and it needs to be replaced soon. The Briggs & Stratton V-Twin is a powerful engine but it uses more fuel than expected under a load. Overall a great unit and we are happy with our purchase.

Will literally mow from sun up to sun down and pull any implement with ease.

The GT54LS is a garden tractor's tractor. This machine is well built with tons of features including the HD K66ELD locking differential which is one of the beefiest transaxles to be installed in a garden tractor. Plenty of pulling power to haul brush and materials with my 10x8' utility trailer around the property. If you have 2-5 acres of property to maintain, then this would be the perfect tractor for you. This tractor is so much more than a riding lawnmower, and can accept many attatchments for whatever tasks are required to get done. When we got our GT54LS, we had to level the deck to correct a grass strip issue, and let some air out of the tires. Seems the tires are aired up more than normal for shipping purposes. Also had to lower the anti-scalping wheels 2 notches on all 4 to get the deck to ride smoothly over the lawn, and not scalp it in spots. Doing those 3 things really makes all the difference, and our lawn looks like a golf course now. The turning radius is great, and acts like a more expensive zero turn which really cuts down on mowing times. We have over 600 hours on our tractor, and everything still performs like new. No issues whatsoever, just the normal maintenance on belts, oil changes, and blades, etc. 5/5*

What can't this tractor do? I haven't found out that answer yet. 327 houes and still running great. The only flaw is the quick change blade setup. It falls apart too easy, and the blades are thinner than standard blades. Luckily they are easy to replace with the proper blades since the standard star pattern spindles are already installed. Just remove the aluminum EZ replace blade clasps to access them. Other than that we haven't had any issues besides routine maintence items.

This is a great mower once you get the poorly designed "rapid replace" blade system off of the mower deck for good. Husqvarna needs to go back to engineering school on their so called "quick change" blade system. The blades that come with it are scrap metal as far as I'm concerned, and went into my scrap pile 3 weeks into running with them, as they bend easy going through taller/thicker grass if not careful. The blades and quick change hubs on the spindles are prone to getting damaged easily from uneven terrain and debris, or rocks poking up through your lawn. The aluminum blade holders will toss their protective plastic covers by the second mowing job, exposing the blade holder latches, thereby destroying them so it's nearly impossible to remove the blades due to mangled blade holders without drastic measures. Two out of three of the blade holders had to be hacksawed apart just to get the junk "ez replace" blades off. The third one was finally able to be released using the brass drift punch and hammer method. I took the whole "rapid replace" system completely off and put the standard old school 54" blade set on in it's place. I only had to grind about 1/4" of the the tips off the spindle mount bolts protruding through the (4 bolts per) spindle mount holes. I was also able to re-use the original bolts that were used to hold the "rapid replace" assemblies on the spindles, as the new blade holder bolts go directly onto the spindle shafts, (as it should've been done).
Do yourself a huge favor and "rapidly replace" the OEM "rapid replace" system with the tried and true standard old school system before you mow for the first time. You will save $$$ on replacing blades more than normal, and headaches/aggravation in the process.
Other than this easily fixed design flaw, these are great tractors once you fix the blades, with plenty of power, and traction with the lockable rear differential to get the job done. I put 4 stars because of the mower blade system, otherwise it would've been 5*.

This is the ultimate mower for the serious landowner that has over 2 acres of lawn to mow, and grounds to take care of. The locking differential makes all the difference on hilly terrain where other mowers would spin out and get hung up. I have yet to get hung up with this beast, even when mowing through uncut areas, or blazing new walking paths in the outlying prairies. The cruise control, and electric pto are great features too! The automatic choke feature means no failed, or flooded engine. Just turn the key, and go!
